srandomat: "Orwell’s “1984” was challenged for its pro-communist and sexually explicit content"

Was challenged by whom? By the Tennessee school board? For its pro-communist content? Does this leftard (who wrote the article) really think that 1984 was pro-communist? Do you think 1984, the Brave New World and the Animal Farm were pro-communist? I think these books illustrated quite the opposite - the perniciousness of leftist group think.

"Kdo neni s nami, je proti nam". To prece rikali komunisti.
Názorová konformita je jednou z fundamentalnich zasad současného liberalismu. Coz cini tenhle oxymoron "almost comical in its irony" ve slovech toho vemena co ten clanek napsal.

Ano, my liberalove jsme celkem vsichni pro Amewriku beze lzi, bez podvodu, bez zradcu, bez rasismu. *6914* *24664*

"Ano, my liberalove jsme celkem vsichni pro Amewriku beze lzi, bez podvodu, bez zradcu, bez rasismu."

... a bez jakékoliv nazorové rozmanitosti.

"While this groundbreaking novel has a place of honor as a PBS Great American Read Top 100 Pick, it also maintains its status as the most banned book of all time in America. Why was it banned? Its social and political themes were found to be too controversial, and its sexual content was deemed inappropriate. In 1981, Jackson County, Florida challenged the book for being pro-communism. Considering large portions of the text are not only anti-communist but in fact anti-government all together, this challenge seems like a bit of a stretch. Furthermore, the book was based on the very real political climate of Nazi Germany and Stalinist Russia, warning against the totalitarianism that caused so much suffering in those countries and the regions over which they had influence."

1981 was 42 years ago. The political climate at the end of the Carter administration was totally different to be used in this context. Besides, the reason why this book was not recommended for school-age children had nothing to do with its message, but only with its style:

"Despite its importance as a dystopian classic and its prominence within popular culture to the present day, 1984 is a commonly challenged book in school libraries because of objections to its content. The book features violent acts and explicit sexual themes. Scenes such as Winston's fantasizing about raping and killing Julia, the sexual relationship between Winston and Julia outside of marriage, or the graphic tortures threatened in Room 101 (such as Winston having his face chewed off by rats) are enough to get the book repeatedly challenged by concerned parents who believe the book is too mature for their children to read even within a classroom setting"

I can name dozens of books, starting with some of the classics by Mark Twain or Harriet Beecher Stowe that are shunned in todays classrooms for their message, which is not consistent with woke historical revisionism of todays curriculum.
