The American Civil Liberties Union, along with other local disability groups and parents, filed a lawsuit Tuesday seeking to end a South Carolina law which bans public schools from setting mask mandates, arguing that the ban excludes students with disabilities or health conditions who may be more susceptible to catching Covid-19, in the latest lawsuit over school mask mandates in the nation.
The organization said prohibiting students and employees from wearing a mask in school facilities “particularly targets” children with disabilities who have underlying health conditions and puts them “at a higher risk for severe illness, lingering disabilities or even death” due to coronavirus.
